SHREE GHANAPATHY TEMPLE
Kids just want to have fun...
In these difficult times, when the cost of living crisis is spiralling out of control, we are acutely aware that many young families are struggling to prioritise where and how to spend their money. Here, at the Shree Ghanapathy Temple, we want to help as much as we can. We have always given our premises free of charge to music and dance teachers, so that they can keep their charges affordable for all. We also offer free classes in Spiritual Education, so that all children can learn about their faith and spirituality.
Twice a year, for about 10 years, our children collected new books, toys and art materials, which were given to underprivileged children at Family Centres run by Action for Children in Central London. Over the years, this project has expanded to help other children’s charities, and includes donating Easter Eggs to children in local hospitals, Christmas presents to local Women’s refuges and donations of clothing, toiletries and non-perishable food items to refugee centres for refugees fleeing from the war in Ukraine.
Our volunteers worked with local charities during the pandemic, providing food and provisions to refugees and other hard-to-reach communities, and continue this work with our local Care4Calais drop-in centre to provide toys, books, clothing and treats for the children of refugee families from many war-torn areas of the world and with other local charities to support the homeless in the borough.
